Transportation and Security Administration (TSA):  Special Service is a certified IAC and maintains a centralized TSA compliance register for every company Station (excepting SAV), and all employees and drivers at Corporate with a single POC for all locations.  We also maintain all standards, records and individual Company SSI’s at Corporate.
All personnel run through the Special Service IAC program are also uploaded in the ‘Veroot’ system.
A number of Stations and personnel have also completed the TSA ‘Screened Chain of Custody’ for training for transit procedures.

Special Service is permitted as a ‘Common’ and a ‘Contract’ Carrier.  The last full DOT inspection occurred in January 2010 and was graded “Satisfactory”, followed by a ‘Non-Ratable’ review in October 2012 which confirmed that status.
We have centralized and annual DMV, background & security checks on all SSFC personnel.
Special Service was an early adopter of the now mandated ELD (Electronic Logging Device) program for ‘over the road’ drivers, and all company vehicles are equipped with GPS telematics to monitor speed, cargo and personnel safety, driving behavior and location.

Hazmat: ID # 124083 / Reg # 050919550087B (See current certification under ‘Forms’ page).  Hazardous materials personnel are trained in loading and handling processes in the following locations –  Atlanta, Asheville, Columbia, Charleston, Charlotte, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh and Wilmington.
They are certified to handle and transport non-bulk Hazmat classes as follows:
DIV 1.4, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2,
Classes 3, 3A, 3B,
DIV 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.1, 5.2,
Classes 8, 8A, 8B and Class 9.

We do not handle ‘Bulk’ Hazmat, explosives, radioactive or biological Hazmat.  Always call forward to station of origin, or Compliance POC, Chip Popovici, before consigning Hazmat to Special Service.

Security:  Our General Manager oversees all aspects of security and compliance.
Special Service operates about 200,000 sq.ft. of warehousing, and each of our locations has made significant investment in securing facilities, equipment and personnel to ensure the safety of employees, drivers and our customers cargo while on-site and in-transit.
All terminals are fully secured with controlled and escorted access for all visitors, full coverage CCTV systems, and 24/7 remote monitoring for security and fire.
Trucks are locked at all times, with the majority tracked through a GPS telematics system.
Our data center is centrally managed, backed up daily and held off site, and we have a regulated security program to monitor documentation handling and record keeping.
The Company has a formal emergency response plan for severe weather, computer failures, bomb threats, hazmat spills, etc.

C-TPAT:  Special Service is ‘self-certified compliant’ with C-TPAT requirements.
As both an IAC and CBP regulated company we ensure that the highest standards of compliance, surveillance, tracking, hiring and security are maintained at all locations.
All Terminals have controlled entry with escorted access and 24/7 monitoring, CCTV surveillance, and secured cargo areas.

Company Drug Policy:
Special Service has a ‘zero-tolerance’ program relating to drugs and alcohol.
All employees and Drivers take a drug screen pre-hire, and we run a random and mandatory quarterly drug testing program across the company.

Smartway – Special Service participates in this Federal  Environmental Program.

UIIA – Special Service is part of this program, and is able to receive/return shipping containers, and build consolidations or deconsolidate and deliver containerized freight.  (See current certification under Forms page).

AEMCA – We are a long term member of the Industry group, the ‘Air & Expedited Motor Carriers Organization”, benefitting from access to their legal opinion, forums and lobbying.
